As the neon apple dropped in NYC, Marlon Gerber, Mikala Jones, SURFING photographer Jeff Flindt and Taylor Steele clinked canteens to toast yet another successful reckless decision.
Sahara is not an easy surf trip. Turn-ons include camel kebabs, landmine leftovers and long hikes in the desert. Weather: the moment you’re not blazing hot, you’re freezing cold. Politics: four different nations maintain half-hearted hostilities over this barren wasteland. And none of them surf. Waves: totally empty.

Good to recharge in Zululand. Its an incredible area with all the crazy wildlife. Plus its nice to find a place that is without landline phones, no internet and very bad cell phone reception.

After some really crazy travel we find the jewel of India. Offshore perfect waves all day and no surfer for hundreds of miles.

Rasta surfed himself into a mess. He surfed so much he looks like a deadman walking.

The waves aren’t epic but so far they are quite rippable. More push than we expected. There are plenty of set ups all around. Finding waves is hard here. Just to get to the beach from the road we would have to walk through a bunch of little alley ways and tight corners in between the houses. One by one kids would follow us to see why the the westerners were in their neighborhood. By the time we would get to the beach there would be twenty or so kids with us.

Waves are supposed to pick up soon. So we are filming some lifestyle and enjoying the culture. Filming in these Indian towns are crazy. So many people and such a tight area. Makes for great visuals and tiring days.
